Thank You For Investing In Tucson's Youth

For more than 50 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs has provided Tucson’s youth with positive after-school and summer programs. Currently, serving more than 6,000 youth throughout Tucson, age 7-17, where they enjoy low-cost memberships at 6 clubhouses which are strategically located in neighborhoods where families and children need us most.

The Clubs provide a caring, professional staff, more than 40 after-school academic and athletic programs, and a safe environment to grow and thrive.  Were it not for the local Clubhouses, many of our Club members would be on the streets or home alone during the hours when they are most susceptible to engaging in potentially destructive behavior.

Fortunately, through the generosity of our supporters, the Clubs welcome members and provide them with a home away from home where they are accepted and encouraged to participate in a variety of activities which build self-esteem, values, and skills.  Members create a foundation to support healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship and on-time grade progression.  When our members graduate from high school, they are prepared for a successful future.

While membership fees are kept low at just $10 per academic year, the true cost to the Clubs is $600 annually.   I hope you will consider donating to the Clubs through my fundraising page and helping me reach my fundraising goals.  Contributing is easy… just click on the DONATE NOW button.

Thank you!

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is to provide young people in Tucson, especially those who need us most, with a clear path to reach their full potential and pursue their dreams.

Friends:

On Thursday April 13, I will be running 5 Km. On Friday April 14, I will run 10 Km. On Saturday April 15, I will run half a marathon. Finally, on Sunday April 16, I will run 19 miles and my wife will run the extra 7 miles to complete the marathon (I am almost 57, so I have to be careful).

Every year I have to do something crazier and more creative to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson. In Tucson, there are 6 Clubhouses located in rough neighborhoods, that offer kids a place to go after school and be safe. More often than not, these kids live in areas infested by crime, in broken homes where only one parent is present and has to work long hours, or in homes where one or both parents are in jail. When the kids finish school, if they don’t have a safe place to go, it is easier for them to get involved in drugs and gangs. The B&G Clubs offer the kids a safe place to practice sports, do their homework, and socialize with other kids. Furthermore, the Clubs feed dinner to every kid every night.

I have witnessed miracles. I know first-hand of a young lady that used to be in drugs and fights and now is in college hoping to work for the FBI. I know of another one, whose Mother was deported to Mexico when she was 14, and she still managed to successfully finish high school and now is in college trying to become a Lawyer. Finally, I know of another young lady that used to skip school to go and do drugs and now she has been accepted to college. They all claim that, the biggest reason for turning around their lives, was the positive influence that they got from the Boys & Girls Club.

Now we need to raise funds for being able to keep the Clubs open during the summer, and I really need your help. Please go to https://bgctuc.ejoinme.org/juan2017

It doesn’t matter where you live. As I mentioned a couple of years ago, the world is becoming smaller, and this kid that you may be helping now in Arizona, could be your next Doctor in Texas, employee in Toronto, or son in-law in Mexico, instead of your next drug dealer.

If you want to come on Sunday, April 16 and run a few miles with me, please email me and I will give you the details of where I will be running. It will be less lonely!!

Thanks in advance for your help.
