Thank You For Investing In Tucson's Youth

The Boys & Girls Clubs has provided Tucson’s youth with positive after school and summer programs for 52 years. Currently, 5,000 of our community’s most at-risk kids, age 7-17, enjoy low cost memberships at our 6 clubhouses which are located in disadvantaged neighborhoods where families and children need us most.

The Clubs provide a caring professional staff, dozens of life enriching academic and athletic programs, and a safe environment to grow and thrive.  Were it not for their local Clubhouse, many of our members would be on the streets or home alone during the hours when they are most susceptible to engaging in potentially destructive behavior.  Fortunately, through to the generosity of our supporters, the Clubs welcome members and provide them with a home away from home where they are accepted and encouraged to participate in a variety of activities which build self-esteem, values and skills.  Members create a foundation to support healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship and on-time grade progression.  When our members graduate from high school, they are prepared for a successful future.

While membership fees are kept low at just $10 per academic year, the true cost to the Clubs is $600 annually.   I hope you will consider donating to the Clubs through my fundraising page and helping me reach my fundraising goals.  Contributing is easy… just click on the DONATE NOW button.

Thank you!

Friends:

For the past 2 years, I have ran either a marathon or a half marathon in order to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson. This non-profit organization is making a huge and immediate impact in the community by providing a safe place for underprivileged children to go after school. Typically, these children come from broken families, where a parent may not be present or have an addiction that prevents them to take proper care of their children. These conditions are ideal for gangs and drug dealers to recruit children. It is an epidemic problem that affects all of us.

The B&G Club of Tucson has 6 facilities that become a safe place for these kids to spend their time after school. The kids do sports, activities, and homework. The Clubs also provide every kid with dinner every day. The Clubs rely on donations in order to survive. It is hard for me to describe in words the many lives that the B&G Club of Tucson has saved.

If you don’t live in Tucson, you may think that this is not important to you. However, as I mentioned last year, today’s world is getting smaller and more mobile, and one of these kids could end up living in your neighborhood, become your next employee, or your future in-law. It affects all of us.

So, in order to raise money this year, my plan is to run the Zion Half Marathon on March 12, the Arizona Distance Classic Half Marathon on March 20, and a Half Marathon on my own on March 26. In short, I will be running 3 half marathons (13 miles each) on consecutive weekends. A bit challenging, considering that I am 55, but I will accomplish it. Whoever wants to join me on the third leg, I will do it at Rancho Vistoso Blvd in Oro Valley and I will start at 7:30 am. Please call me for details.

I need to raise $10,000 for this organization.  I am asking for your support in achieving this goal. It doesn’t matter how small a contribution you can make, it will help a kid, immediately. You will be making an impact right away. Please go to my page https://bgctuc.ejoinme.org/juan2016 to donate whatever amount you consider it appropriate. Please Do It Now, when you finish reading this, so that you don’t forget.
